Online Dating Scams

Love is in the air! While meeting someone new and special can be an incredible experience, online dating websites and services have become the new hunting ground for scammers and fraudsters. These con artists will start online relationships with their victims, gain their trust, and then use them to open new bank accounts for what ends up turning into fraudulent and abusive use.

If you meet someone new, especially online, and they ask you to open a new bank account, deposit funds into an account on their behalf, send you a check to deposit for them, or ask you to perform other financial transactions on their behalf, you may be a victim of a scam.

If you find yourself in this situation:

  • Do not give out any private or financial information such as bank account numbers, online banking login and password credentials, or your personal information, such as social security numbers.
  • Share this information with your local banking center and allow us to help you navigate the potential scam and ensure your personal and financial information remains safe and secure.
