Regional mobile phone customers targeted in texting scam


A region wide texting scam is again targeting mobile phone customers throughout North Central West Virginia and surrounding areas. The scam targets multiple mobile service carriers and claims to be a message from the “MVBBkInc Fraud Center.” The text directs users to click links to verify charges and then to call to reactivate their cards by calling the number provided.

This is not an MVB Bank communication. Do not call the number.

“These illegal communications are in no way related or connected to MVB Bank and we are urging all recipients of the text messages to contact the proper authorities,” said Amy Baker, Vice President for Corporate Communications for MVB Bank. “Our information system has not been compromised. This is an issue for the mobile phone system providers. As soon as we became aware of the scam we immediately notified our clients via our website and social media communications. We are continuing to monitor the situation and we have contacted all proper authorities.”

Text scams are illegal and should be reported.

Always remember:  MVB Bank, nor any other legitimate financial institution, would never request your personal information via text message.
