2012 Festival of Trees
It was a Big XII Christmas at the fourth annual Festival of Trees. Organized each year by Friends of WVU Hospitals, the event raises money for various programs at the hospital. This year, donations benefited the Comfort Fund, set up to help cancer patients pay for various expenses, including travel and hotel rooms. WVU Head Football Coach Dana Holgorsen attended as the event’s honorary chairman. The Mountaineer football team helped decorate one of the trees with ornaments signed by the players. MVB Bank was also proud to be a sponsor of this year’s auction.
WVU Children’s Hospital Change Bandits
MVB Bank was proud to once again sponsor the 2012 WVU Children’s Hospital Change Bandit program in conjunction with the “Q for Kids Radiothon” in North Central West Virginia. Area residents and businesses were encouraged to pick-up Change Bandit bags at MVB branches and collect change in the month leading up to November’s radiothon. Due to overwhelming support from the community, MVB was able to make a $2,426.68 donation to WVU Children’s Hospital. For the first time, MVB matched funds dollar-for-dollar that were donated by participants. This year’s radiothon raised $121,323.06 for WVU Children’s Hospital in Morgantown.
It was another great weekend of riding, music and great food for bike enthusiasts from all across the country at MountainFest 2012. This year’s entertainment included John Kay & Steppenwolf, the Rowdy Johnson Band and the event’s headliner, Grammy-nominated country star Trace Adkins. More than 50,000 people showed up to Mylan Park in Morgantown over four days to take in stunt shows, races, and some great concerts. See you next year, July 24-27, for MountainFest 2013!
An Evening In Paradise
An evening set in a tropical paradise with the sounds of Jimmy Buffett floating in the background. The auction and event raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The foundation has granted hundreds of wishes over the years, ranging from trips to the Super Bowl to face time with a beloved celebrity. This year’s event was attended by WVU Football Coaches Dana Holgorsen and Jake Spavital, as well as former “Bachelorette” Emily Maynard. This year’s honoree was flown to Disney World with her family.
WVU Children's Hospital Gala
“A Winter Wonderland” brought snow to the inside of the Morgantown Events Center in February, where attendees raised more than $200,000 for WVU Children’s Hospital. Children from all over the state are treated on the WVU Campus for everything from life threatening illnesses to broken bones. This year’s entertainment featured Powerhouse and the Michael Jackson tribute band “Who’s Bad.” The MVB Team was out in full force at the event once again to show their support for this worthy cause. We look forward to being part of the Gala’s Tenth Year in 2013!
Bob Huggins Fish Fry
For the second year, the WVU football season kicked off with the help of the university’s head men’s basketball coach. The annual Bob Huggins Fish Fry benefits Remember the Miners, an organization aimed at giving scholarships to miners’ children, as well as WVU’s Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. This year’s attendees were given the chance to mingle with former Mountaineer greats including Jerry West, Da’Sean Butler, Willie Akers, and Wellington Smith.
